Paper Jamming

  • Loaded paper (ensure the supports are properly positioned, so the paper goes in straight)
  • Handled paper (knicks and damage to the edges of the paper can cause jams)
  • Stored paper which has waves or wrinkles
  • Dried out paper, so don’t use paper that’s already gone through a laser printer, even if it hasn’t been printed on: the heat from the fused will dry it out
  • Aging feed rollers that don’t properly grip the paper
  • Chaff and paper dust in the printer, which jams or coats the feed rollers
  • Old feed rollers which aren’t rolling properly anymore due to dust, wear or mechanical problems
  • Wrong paper coating (thin, coated paper, for example, jams very easily)
  • Badly designed printers that have very poor tolerances in the feed mechanism (surprisingly common)
  • Torn paper from previous jams
  • At the start of the imaging area. This sensor starts timing of the imaging output to set the margins.
  • Exit of the imaging area, or entrance to the fusing area (if a laser printer).
  • Entrance to the stapler/stacker, if there is one.

Most current printers have a similar design, depending on the printer brand and model, you may need to make minor alterations to these steps.

  • Remove any paper that has been trapped in the loading tray.
  • Any loose paper in the loading tray should be removed.
  • On the front of the printer, press the Resume button.
  • Starting in the middle, carefully remove the glued paper one sheet at a time.
  • Look inside the printer for any stray pieces of paper.
  • Removing the jam from the printer’s back

If you can’t get to the paper jam from the loading tray, clear the paper from the back of the printer by following the instructions.

Printing Speed is too Slow

This kind of problem is mostly a result of using non-original or refilled ink cartridges, as they are often unreliable in terms of print quality. Original inks have the right chemical formulation that ensures inks dry on paper quickly.

Things to check-

  • Power on the printer if it’s off.
  • Start off by updating the printer drivers.
  • Then, update all the Windows drivers.
  • Try and change the USB cable
  • Try and print with default printer settings
  • Go into the printer settings app in Windows Control Panel and reset everything to default.
  • If your test print shows any errors in alignments, lineups, missing colors, missing sections, smudges, spots, etc.
  • Check that you haven’t introduced an old Wi-Fi mode device to your WLAN that is forcing the router to communicate at slower speeds with everything else.
  • Web search for reports of issues with your Anti-virus, malware scanner software. Sometimes they get a little too “enthusiastic” and can slow things down.
  • If the warranty is expired, and depending on the age of your printer, and whatever other issues your printer is giving you mechanically.

Color prints in Wrong Color

This can be a problem if the ink cartridge or color toner gets in the wrong place. You can also see in general whether it is right or wrong. Its only solution is to remove it and put it in the right place. It will take some time to give a normal color print. It has been seen in some inkjet printers that the ink has to be recycled. Due to which the color gets mixed.
